Rosenberger OSI Launches FieldCast Fibre Optic Cabling System at IBC 2014
Rosenberger OSI announced on August 19, 2014 the launch of FieldCast, a new high-speed fibre optic cabling system for 4K video and beyond, ahead of its debut at IBC2014 on stand 11.E39 in Amsterdam. Described by the company as the world's first robust HD/4K/8K fibre optic solution available as an off-the-shelf product, FieldCast was designed to overcome the distance limitations of coaxial copper cable, which restricts 6Gbps 4K signals to roughly 60 to 70 metres without repeaters.
Rosenberger OSI's Ab Vingerling said FieldCast had been created "to the highest specification" while remaining "compatible with broadcast and AV technology and... very attractively priced," adding that the simplified, pre-configured connector range would help fibre "finally... go mainstream" for users accustomed to coaxial copper cable. The system supports both 6Gbps and 12Gbps SDI signals, and Rosenberger appointed Mediamachine to handle distribution across EMEA territories and Holdan to serve the UK and Irish markets.
